Parent and carer letter 22nd May 2026.pdf

22nd May 2026

Dear Parent/Carer

Education and Training Inspectorate (ETI) District Visits

I am writing to share very positive news following two recent visits to City of Armagh High School by the Education and Training Inspectorate (ETI).

On 19 February 2026, the school participated in an ETI visit focusing on attendance. Inspectors returned on 20 May 2026 to review our provision for safeguarding, child protection and inclusion.

I am delighted to report that both visits resulted in highly positive feedback. A key strength identified was the strong culture of safeguarding and care across the school. Inspectors noted that pupils “feel safe, know who to turn to for support, and benefit from the compassionate and proactive approach of our staff.”

The visits also highlighted strong teamwork across staff and leadership, with a shared sense of responsibility and a clear focus on supporting every pupil. Positive relationships between staff and pupils were evident throughout, contributing to a welcoming and inclusive environment where new pupils settle quickly.

Pupils spoke very positively about their experience, describing the school as “friendly, supportive and like a family.” They highlighted the strong relationships they have with staff and one another, as well as the sense of fairness and belonging within the school community.

This feedback reflects the commitment and dedication of our staff, pupils and wider school community. It strongly affirms the values at the heart of our school.

At City of Armagh High School, our work is guided by our ethos, vision and mission. We aim to provide a happy, caring and inclusive environment where, through quality teaching, every child has the opportunity to reach their full potential, both academically and socially.

These positive outcomes are a clear reflection of how we are living out this vision every day. We are incredibly proud of our school community and thank you for your continued support.

Art Exhibition

Our Year 12 art pupils celebrated their hard work at our annual art exhibition on Wednesday 20 May 2026. It was wonderful to see their talent on display. Well done to all pupils and to Mrs Creighton for organising such an excellent event.

Duke of Edinburgh

Our Duke of Edinburgh pupils and staff are currently completing their two-day expedition in the Mourne Mountains. We wish them a safe, enjoyable and (hopefully) dry experience.

Athletics

Congratulations to all pupils who represented the school at the recent Ulster Athletics Championships. All athletes qualified following medal-winning performances at the District Championships—an excellent achievement.

School Examinations

Year 8–11 pupils will complete end-of-year examinations during the week beginning 1st – 5th June. We wish them every success. Revision lists and timetables have been issued, and a separate letter will provide further details.

Staff Development Days

As outlined in the school calendar, there is a staff development day on Friday 29 May and pupils should not attend on this day.

The remaining two staff development days will now take place on:

Pupils will not attend school on these days.

Sports Day

Sports Day will take place on Tuesday 26 May. Pupils may attend in full school PE kit. As warm weather is forecast, please ensure pupils bring sunscreen.

P6 Days

We look forward to welcoming P6 pupils on Monday 15 June and Tuesday 16 June.

To facilitate this, some year groups will work from home:

Pre-Loved Uniform

We are continuing with our second-hand uniform shop to support families with rising costs.

We welcome donations of clean, good-quality uniform (including PE kit). Items can be sent into school in a carrier bag and left at reception. All items will be washed and stored for distribution at the start of the new school year.

Emerald Park Trip

The annual trip to Emerald Park will take place on Thursday 25 June.

Please note that attendance will be dependent on behaviour in the lead-up to the trip. Payment and return of permission slips do not guarantee a place.
