The Autism Specific and Learning Support Classes are situated on the Science Corridor of City of Armagh High School.
The Learning Support Centre (LSC) has existed for twenty three years and now comprises of two classes.
Our pupils have access to the full NI curriculum and subjects which cannot be delivered within the LSC department are taught by the relevant mainstream specialist teachers.
LSC pupils are taught in a small group setting with the additional support of full time Classroom Assistants. Within that environment, we are able to vary the content and pace of work to suit individual pupils, providing extra support when necessary.
The Autism Specific Classes are a relatively new addition and were brought into existence twelve years ago. Whilst we have pupils within Mainstream school and LSC with a diagnosis of Autism, these two specialist classes cater for a maximum of sixteen pupils (eight at KS3 and eight at KS4).
Again, pupils have access to the full NI curriculum and subjects which cannot be delivered within the LSC department are taught by the relevant mainstream specialist teachers. However, there are also additional subjects and timetabling exemptions which are relevant to the specific needs of these pupils.
We pride ourselves on creating a welcoming environment which in turn promotes a positive work ethic within all our pupils. Our strong Pastoral ethos encourages pupils to achieve their maximum individual potential while maintaining good relationships and friendships with peers and staff.
